Event Description:
European Peace Research Association (EuPRA), the European affiliate of International Peace Research Association (IPRA) in cooperation with Faculty of Social Sciences, European University of Tirana, Albania is currently accepting submissions for its 6th bi-annual Congress to take place on 23-25 July 2009. Historically, Europe has experienced splits and divisions that have created its unique and shared history and culture. As to Western Europe, it is evident that the process of integration that was initiated in economic terms, found its political momentum after 1989 with the unification of Germany, the dismantling of the Warsaw Pact and the dissolution of the Soviet Union in the early 1990s. The integration that extended eastwards is evident not only in figures but also in political terms. However, the future of an integrated Europe and its identity face two challenges: the future of EU institutions and functioning, and the issue of enlargement towards Southeast Europe. The conference aims at promoting discussion of both strategic and ethical questions surrounding issues of peace, integration, security, and justice, while committed to balanced discussions of diverse perspectives on division and engagement. We are most interested in the cultural and political issues surrounding peace and integration occurring between nations and peoples. We invite papers on topics such as war, peace, global cooperation, domestic violence, and interpersonal conflict resolution; including questions of military and political security, the global and European economy, and global and European environmental issues.
